Regularly checking the validity of your BIMI records

Setting up BIMI is a systematic process that integrates seamlessly with your existing email security protocols.

Ensure DMARC is implemented

Before considering BIMI, make sure your domain has implemented and enforced DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) and has adopted a “quarantine” or “reject” policy. BIMI requires a valid DMARC record as its foundation.

Your brand logo should be in SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format. Make sure it complies with BIMI’s specifications, especially regarding background transparency and logo centering.

Upload the SVG logo to a web-accessible location (HTTPS). This location should be reliable because the email server will fetch the logo from here to display in the inbox.

Create your BIMI DNS record

Draft a BIMI DNS record for your domain in TXT format. The syntax generally looks like this:

default._bimi.yourdomain.com IN TXT “v=BIMI1; l=https://yourdomain.com/path-to-logo.svg;”

  • v=BIMI1 specifies the BIMI version.
  • l= URL pointing to the hosted logo.

Publishing BIMI records

Add the BIMI DNS record to your domain’s DNS settings. This will allow participating email servers to detect and read your BIMI record.

Obtain the certification mark certificate (VMC)

Some email providers may require additional verification via a VMC. This certificate verifies that the logo is indeed owned by the domain and is authorized to use. If necessary, purchase doctor database a VMC from a trusted Certificate Authority (CA) and add the validity it to your BIMI record using the a= tag.

Testing and Monitoring

After setting up BIMI, it is prudent to test its functionality. Use the benefits of using poptin
BIMI Lookup Tool to ensure that your BIMI records are configured correctly and are detectable. Also, continue to monitor your DMARC reports for any authentication failures.

Ensures that your brand maintains a consistent and the validity trusted presence in every inbox.

Manually review your BIMI records:  Dive into your domain’s DNS singapore data records. Look for a TXT record associated with the “default._bimi” prefix for your domain. For example, if your domain is “test.com”, your BIMI record should be named “default._bimi.test.com”. This record should contain your brand logo in SVG format, hosted on a publicly accessible HTTPS server.
